File FormatsHaving the correct file formats for any type of design is very important and often ignored by other design companies. At Splash Concepts we make sure all of our clients are supplied with a variety of file formats so their design can be used in all possible ways while maintaining the best image quality for each medium. The following information explains the file formats that a client will receive for a logo design along with our recommendation on how the files should be used. (1) A black and white version of the logo design will be supplied at a high print resolution *300 dots per inch* in two common file formats *jpeg and tiff*. We recommend these files to be used for faxing, black and white newspaper or magazine ads, or any print material that requires the logo design in black and white. (2) A color version of the logo design will be supplied at a high print resolution *300 dots per inch* in two common file formats *jpeg and tiff*. We recommend these files to be used for color newspaper or magazine ads, embroidery, importing the logo design into desktop publishing programs *Microsoft Office etc.* which will be printed, or any print material that requires the logo design in color. (3) A color version of the logo design at a low resolution *72 dots per inch* in a common file format *gif* set in three different sizes *small, medium, and large*. We recommend these files to be used only for a website or any other non-print applications. (4) Finally, the most important file will be supplied to the client, the eps file (Encapsulated Post Script). EPS files are the most versatile file format that is available and is an industry standard in the design and print field. This file is important in many ways because it is the master-working file of the design. If changes need to be made to the design *color changes, adding or subtracting to the design* down the road this file will be needed. If a design needs to be scaled to work with a large sign or billboard then this file will be needed, EPS files allow a design to be scaled at any size without loosing quality. The usages for the EPS files can go on and on, having this file will save a lot of stress, money and time should anyone ever request it. A lot of logo design companies will not supply an EPS file because either they want you to come back to them if you need it or the logo design wasn’t created in the proper format, this can be a big problem if you ever need it. |
